3 Questions for Mayor Anthony Candelora: August

Mayor Anthony Candelora on the Route 80 construction project, business in North Branford and back to school advice.

North Branford Patch: What is new with the Town of North Branford?
Anthony Candelora: The Route 80 project is still ongoing. I know many people have stopped me to say when will this be done? They have expressed their concerns and frustrations. Presently the Firehouse Driveway is being worked on.

The construction company found a major problem underground, which caused them to dig very deep and put a whole new sub base. Water was washing out underneath, which would cause the base to move, now this problem has been corrected. Half the driveway will be done and a test with the fire apparatus will be done to make sure there is adequate clearance.

The monuments along the side of the Church will be relocated and will be put together and form a nice area for residents to go and reflect on the many Veterans and their families that have served our country. Route 80 entering into North Branford has been repaved and striped the road came out great.

North Branford Patch: What's something residents should know?
Anthony Candelora: North Branford remains a wonderful town to live and work in. We will continue to create an economic base and invite people to come here and start a business or move their business here to our town. We are becoming a destination, not just a drive-thru to avoid Interstate 95. We have a diverse business base from a shoe cobbler, to fresh seafood, the famous “Poppy’s Restaurant,” a light manufacturer and much more. We need to continue to market our town and showcase the many strengths we have, including a Public Works Department that, during one of the worse storms, had our roads opened quickly and Police and Fire Departments that provide us the best when we need them the most.

North Branford Patch: What's your best back-to-school advice?
Anthony Candelora: Be ready to learn, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Enjoy your time in school – it goes quickly. We have a wonderful school system with the best teachers and administrators. Get involved in your school, play sports or join clubs. The more you put into your school, the more you will get out of it. Be positive and do your best! I hope you all have a wonderful productive school year!
