Hammonasset Festival Committee Makes Decision on Weekend Event

All eyes are on the weekend weather forecast, as the East Coast braces for the effects of Hurricane Joaquin.

Hammonasset Festival, scheduled for Oct. 3 and 4, has been cancelled due to the weather.

“After much thought, we have made the decision to cancel the Festival,” the Friends of Hammonasset Festival Committee wrote in a press release. “The current weather combined with the weekend forecast of more rain and very strong winds made this the responsible decision. As disappointed as we are, the safety of all participants, the protection of the artwork, collectibles and instruments brought to the Festival and safety of the animals that are part of the Discovery Tent are all too important to risk. Please know that we did not make this decision lightly.”

The committee said they hope to see everyone at future events and encouraged interested people to follow the Friends of Hammonasset Facebook page to stay apprised of happenings.
