Michael Romano Receives Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk Walker of the Year Award
Congratulations to North Branford's Michael Romano, who was recognized for his fundraising efforts.

Michael Romano – a 64-year-old North Branford man who had one kidney removed as a result of cancer and also survived bladder cancer – walked in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on Sept. 9.
Romano set a goal of raising $5,000 and achieved it, finishing the 26.2-mile walk in 8 hours, 15 minutes. Romano thanked those who supported him in the walk and announced that he is already fundraising for the 2013 walk with a bigger goal of raising $7,000.

On March 10, he was recognized as the Walker of the Year at the Extra Mile Brunch, an event that celebrates Pacesetters, walkers who last year raised more than $1,250.
According the the announcement posted by a Jimmy Fund representative, "As a Two-Star Pacesetter, a participant who raises $2,500 or more, Romano is a top fundraiser for the Walk. Last year, he was granted permission by Connecticut Representative Vincent Candelora to walk on behalf of the state and was featured on Connecticut’s official website. As a result Romano received many donations from fellow Connecticut residents, raising nearly $5,300 to support adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber."
