NBHS Class of 2013: "Wherever Your Ship May Take You, Enjoy the Journey"

Family and friends packed the bleachers and parents of graduates of North Branford High School's Class of 2013 had seats on the football field as 165 students closed out their high school careers. 

Valedictorian Kyle Saroka showed off his whale-speaking skills, encouraging his classmates to try new things like Dory (think Finding Nemo), also saying, "Make yourself proud" and "Wherever your ship may take you, enjoy the journey."

He introduced Class President Laurin Gagne, "the most dramatic girl I know," who in turn thanked Saroka, "the smartest guy I know."
 
Gagne said she was "proud to represent these 165 adults" before going on to share "awkward" stories about her classmates proving that "We're one big class that laughs together. Together we are one – one class, one family and, after today, one memory."

Principal Todd Stoeffler encouraged students to "live life with a balance" as they begin their next stage of life.

Superintendent Scott Schoonmaker placed a rocking chair in the center of the stage before explaining that it represented what he has seen demonstrated by the Class of 2013. 

"This was built by a student, who said, 'I wanted to challenge myself' as part of his construction class. He spent more than 400 hours over the last two years," said Schoonmaker, who remarked on the craftsmanship and attention to detail that this student and the Class of 2013 displayed.

Before handing out the diplomas, Board of Education Chair Marcey Onofrio said, "Each of you can and will accomplish what you set out to."
