North Branford Girls' Track Stands at 3-4


The North Branford girls' track team traveled to Westbrook for a meet against Haddam-Killingworth and Westbrook and came home with several highlights and a 3-4 record so far in 2013.

The 4x800 team of Hayley Gomez, Chelsea Meager, Megan Oakes and Marissa Bale ran a season-best of 12:26. The 4x100 team of Rachel Sokoloff, Erika  Chironna, Katie Stevens and Jordan Miket took first place against Westbrook with a time of 55.06 seconds.

In the high hurdles, Sokoloff and Catie Moran took first and second place, respectively, with times of 17.6 and 18.7. Sokoloff then came back for third place in the 100-meter dash with a season-best of 13.78.

Miket and Sara Olsen took second and third in the 400, running a time of 66.2 and 66.4, respectively. In shot put, Jamie Rippe (22-4), Julie Castillo (21-4) and Melissa Agro (21-3) performed well and each went on to throw a season-best in the discus as Rippe threw 70-2, Castillo threw 67-7 and Agro threw 66-0. 

Meager captured second place in the 800 (2:53). Hayley Gomez took second in the 3,200 meter.

As the meet came down to the last two events, the 4x400 team scored a season-best time of 4:37. Miket (4-8) and Stevens (4-6) finished strong in high jump.  

"The girls worked hard to get the win at Westbrook and overall, the team had a good meet and finished off with high spirits," said Coach Chris Manner.
