North Branford Police Department Crime and Budget Stats

When North Branford Patch published a story last week about how North Branford's Police Department compared, staffing-wise, with police forces in other towns, you called out for more information.

You wanted to know what the crime rates were like in those towns and how their police department budgets compare to North Branford's. 

So here is a quick look at North Branford's crime rate for 2011, the most recent year for which crime data was available. The budget and staffing data is up to date as of 2013. North Branford's 2011 crime rate was 14.9 percent.

The crime data comes from the "Annual Report of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program," which is published by the Crimes Analysis Unit of Connecticut's Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection.

"Crimes cleared," refers to the number of crimes that are either resulted in an arrest, or "some element beyond police control" precluded the arrest of the offender, (such as the death of the offender) according to the description contained in the crime report.
