North Branford Residents Vote On Budget May 14

The proposed budget would increase the tax rate.

NORTH BRANFORD, CT — Residents will vote on May 14 on a proposed $54 million spending plan for fiscal 2019-20, which increases spending by 3.28 percent, the New Haven Register reports. If approved, the tax rate would increase slightly or less than one quarter of a mill.

Highlights of the budget include allocation an additional $500,000 for the Board of Education. The Fire Department's request for an additional $2 million to replace aging trucks was denied but $300,000 was set aside which can possibly be used to lease trucks, the Register reports.

Also $650,000 from the town's fund balance or contingency account is being used to keep taxes lower.
