Scholarship Created To Honor 18-Year-Old Killed In Moped Crash
The family of Jonathan R. Boughton of North Branford created the scholarship fund for young people who want to have a career in the trades.
NORTH BRANFORD, CT — He was just 18.
Jonathan R. Boughton was killed Monday when the moped he was driving was involved in a crash with a car.
The teen suffered what police said were life threatening injuries and though "emergency first responders performed extraordinary efforts," he was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he were pronounced dead, the North Branford Police Department said.

His father, Edward J. Boughton Jr., created a scholarship fund for "kids who are gifted in the trades."
The family owns E. J. Boughton Co., auto repair in North Branford.

As he wrote on a Facebook post thanking people for their prayers and offers of condolence, the teen's father said: "Rather than flowers, we are going to set up a scholarship fund, in Jonathan's name, to help kids who are gifted in the trades, with schooling and tools."
"So many prayers, I wish I could thank you all individually," he wrote. "But thank you all."
The GoFundMe for the scholarship fund was created Tuesday with a goal of $10,000. By Wednesday afternoon, it had raised $25,000 and counting.

Boughton was traveling on a moped when the crash occurred at the intersection of Foxon and Sea Hill roads, police said.
"It is with deep sadness that the North Branford Police Department must announce the identity of the individual who was operating the moped involved in the fatal motor vehicle accident last night," police wrote on Facebook.
"Our hearts go out to the Boughton family, relatives, friends and North Branford community," police wrote.
