T-Birds' Hockey Moves on to State Quarters

The North Branford hockey team finished the regular season with a 12-7-1 record to earn the No. 9 seed in the Division II State Tournament, which began this week. 

The T-Birds kept the 2012-13 season alive by shutting out eighth-seeded New Milford on the road with a 3-0 victory on March 5. New Milford had a 13-5-2 regular-season record, which included a 3-0 win over North Branford on Feb. 6.

Now North Branford hopes to avenge another regular-season loss when it faces Newtown on March 8. During the regular season, Newtown took a 4-2 win over North Branford on Feb. 20. 

Newtown, which finished with a 10-10 record for the No. 17 seed, is certainly riding some momentum, too, as it just knocked off top-seeded Amity 2-1 in the first round. 

The teams will face off on March 8 at 7 p.m. at Milford Ice Pavilion. The winner moves on to the semifinals to take on the winner of the Branford (No. 5)-Fairfield Warde-Ludlowe (No. 13) matchup on March 11.
