UConn Quarterback and Monroe Native Casey Cochran Ends Football Career
The announcement comes after Cochran's fourth concussion.

University of Connecticut quarterback and Monroe native, Casey Cochran is quitting football after sustaining multiple concussions during his career, NBC Connecticut reported.
The UConn football program, their medical staff and the Cochran family decided that the redshirt sophomore will permanently discontinue playing football, according to a statement released by the university.

Cochran sustained his fourth concussion during the Huskies loss to Brigham Young University on Aug. 29, the Hartford Courant reported.
“A silver lining in this matter is that Casey has an interest in pursuing a career in coaching,” UConn head coach Bob Diaco said in a statement. “We can now accelerate his development in that area as he transitions from a player role to a mentor role as he continues to serve the team.”

UConn used quarterback Chandler Whitmer in Saturday’s game against Stony Brook and he will likely remain No. 1 on the depth chart, according to the Courant.
Cochran ends his college career with nine games played, 128 completions out of 206 attempts, 1464 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.
