The Meritorious Service Award, last presented in 2009, honors a CTCPA member for outstanding service over the course of his or her entire career through “leadership and the unselfish giving of time and efforts in the interest of the public accounting profession.” The CTCPA Board of Directors unanimously agreed to present the award to Mr. Clavette this year. “Many presidents take a well-deserved retirement break from the society following their terms – not Alan,” said 2019-2020 President Dennis Cole of Beers, Hamerman, Cohen & Burger. “In addition to his many committee roles, Alan is also one of the first people that CTCPA staff, members, and even legislative officials turn to for down-to-earth explanations on the latest complicated tax changes.”

Mr. Clavette holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from Western Connecticut State University.
Noelle A. Taddei, CPA of North Haven received the 2020 Jack Brooks Leadership Award
The Jack Brooks Leadership Award was created in 2011 to memorialize the inspiration, dedication, and drive for accomplishment that defined former CTCPA Executive Director Jack Brooks. Ms. Taddei was honored for her years of dedicated volunteer service. In addition to serving the organization as a member of the Board of Directors and on numerous committees, culminating as President in 2012, this year marked her third and final term on the Accounting Scholarship Foundation (ASF). The ASF awards scholarships and grants to Connecticut accounting students.
“Noelle has been instrumental in the transformation of this foundation, bringing her knowledge and passion to discussions on everything from the questions asked on the applications to the future of the foundation,” said 2019-2020 President Dennis Cole of Beers, Hamerman, Cohen & Burger.

CTCPA Honorary Membership is presented in appreciation and recognition of faithful service to the CTCPA and the accounting profession. This is only the third Honorary Membership the CTCPA has bestowed in its 112 years of existence. Mr. Zampino was a member of the CTCPA staff for more than three decades; most recently he served as Public Affairs Director, responsible for the organization’s media relations, building relationships with high school and college students and educators, and leading extensive advocacy efforts.

“Over his career, Mark has helped make hundreds of members comfortable and competent in a topic that ranks among a top fear for many of us – public speaking – in his popular business communication and public speaking for professionals’ courses,” said 2019-2020 President Dennis Cole of Beers, Hamerman, Cohen & Burger.

Mr. Zampino was a founding member of “The Accounting Crows,” Connecticut’s only CPA rock band – for which he plays keyboards, guitars, and sings. He is a graduate, summa cum laude, of the University of Hartford, where he has taught as an adjunct professor of business communication for almost 20 years.

The Connecticut Society of CPAs is celebrating more than a century of service to membership and community alike. Formed by nine CPAs in 1908 at New Haven’s Union League Club, today CTCPA has a current membership of almost 6,000 individuals in public practice, business and industry, government, and education. Its function is to advocate on behalf of the accounting profession, foster a professional community among CPAs, and provide continuing education opportunities as well as a comprehensive peer review program and a variety of membership services for CPAs in Connecticut.
