Daytime Gardeners Donate Books to Library

The Daytime Gardeners of North Haven presented books to Pat LaTerza, Director, of the North Haven Memorial Library to help expand their collection of gardening books. A book titled Gardening for the Birds: How to Create a Bird-Friendly Backyard by George Adams, was donated in memory of Mary Fallon, a long-time member of this club. Mary Fallon was passionate about gardening and birds, so this book is the perfect choice. Mary was a woman with many talents and spent many hours gardening, bird watching, and photographing birds and nature. The Daytime Gardeners hope that people in the community will enjoy this book and become motivated to expand their own gardening and bird watching activities.

There are three additional books donated to the gardening collection at the library. The titles are Pollinator Friendly Gardening by Rhonda Fleming Hayes, Xeriscape Plant Guide: Intro by Rob Proctor, and Xeriscape Handbook: A How-To-Guide to Natural, Resource-Wise Gardening by Gayle Weinstein. Pat LaTerza was very excited to receive these books because they are the first of its kind in their collection. The North Haven Library will be one of the few libraries in the consortium of 29 area libraries who have information on this topic. Xeriscape gardening, and creation of pollinator-friendly gardens is currently at the forefront of gardening themes. With increasing interest in low maintenance gardens that are drought-tolerant, and gardens that attract and assist our important pollinators, these books will be a valuable resource to our community.
