As interest in gardening increases, there is increased interest in how to garden without deer eating the beautiful plants and flowers. The Daytime Gardeners took this into consideration when selecting new books to add to the North Haven Library gardening collection. 50 Beautiful Deer-Resistant Plants, by Ruth Rogers Clausen, is now available at the library. This book includes annuals, perennials, bulbs, and shrubs that do not attract deer. They are considered deer-resistant plants, with the understanding that a really hungry deer might take a bite!

Aromatherapy is another type of gardening that is attracting increasing interest. The Aromatherapy Garden: Growing Fragrant Plants for Happiness and Well-Being by Kathi Keville, presents two approaches to aromatherapy. The gardener may design a garden that contains plants that are very fragrant, creating a wonderful outdoor “spa” where one can relax, read, or garden, while enjoying the aroma from the various plants and flowers. Another approach is to grow plants with the intention of bringing the aroma indoors. This book includes recipes for restorative aromas, oils, sachets, and teas. Visit the library gardening collection to check out some books and begin to grow your garden!
