Daytime Gardeners of North Haven Win at Fair

Members of the Daytime Gardeners of North Haven took time out from their gardens at home to attend the North Haven Fair and to exhibit some of the flowers and produce they have grown. Walt Brockett exhibited a large walnut bowl he turned on his lathe. The walnut was from a tree taken down by the Montowese tornado in August of 2016. The bowl was awarded first prize, and also won Best in the Arts and Crafts Class. Helen Nado won first prize for her Miniature Arrangement, and first prize for her ageratums. She also won third prize for her marigolds. Sally Brockett won first prize for her tithonia (Mexican sunflower), and third prize for her small dahlias.

Krista Kaplan won first prize and Best in House Plants Class with one of the succulent living pictures, which were produced during a workshop offered by the Daytime Gardeners. The garden club provided the wood frames, made by Walt Brockett, and succulents, shells, and other materials which were used. Club members demonstrated how to assemble the living picture so participants could create their own design to take home.
