Daytime Gardeners Sponsor May Pole Dance at Spring Festival

The May Pole dance is an old tradition that was brought to life at the Spring Festival on the North Haven Town Green. The May pole and floral crowns were provided by the Daytime Gardeners of North Haven. Walt Brockett, club treasurer, prepared the pole while the other club members prepared the floral crowns worn by the dancers. The floral crowns were also available for sale to the festival visitors and age did not limit the interest in wearing these symbols of spring! The young dancers from En L’Aire Studio of Dance in North Haven gave entertaining performances of dance throughout the day, using the red, blue, and yellow ribbons streaming from the top of the 18 foot pole to weave among themselves and around the pole. It was fun for those who were familiar with May Pole dancing to see this event once again. And it was exciting for those who never heard of it, to see a live demonstration on their own town green.
