MC From The Bench - This Girl Can Hit! Sarah Lombardi #6

Last year I zoomed my camera in on North Haven’s Sarah Lombardi as she approached the plate. I have seen a lot of softball batters prior to this but what stood out was the look of concentration on her face as she entered the batter’s box. Totally focused on the task at hand, and then the swing. A perfect swing, smooth, level, shifting of weight and then sending the ball over the fence.

Fast forward to yesterday, North Haven vs Rockville in round 1 of the CIAC tournament. Same batter, same swing and same result. Lombardi who is a senior this year hit a shot to deep right and I mean a shot. To quote Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) from the movie Field of Dreams, “Man that ball got outta here in a hurry. I mean anything travels that far oughta have a stewardess on it, don't you think?” I think he’s right.

Lombardi, oh yea did I mention she is a really good second baseman, who will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in the fall credits her parents, coaches and teammates for her success.

“I have to thank my parents who have supported me and have always been there for me. If I needed a new glove, bat or just support they are always there.”

With her total concentration and commitment theres is no limit to what she can do. North Haven will play Friday at home with an opponent TBA. I’m sure Sarah will be looking to step into the batter's box Friday afternoon ready to play.
