North Haven Hockey Players Receive Hillo Memorial Scholarships

The scholarships are in memory of Craig M. Hillo, a former North Haven hockey player who died in a car accident in 2003 at the age of 19.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — (Contributed): Chip and Joan Hillo, (pictured from left to right) with North Haven varsity hockey coach Chris Avena, present scholarships to North Haven High School senior hockey players Alan Tancreti, Jake Wentworth, and Donny Funaro.

The Hillos' son Craig died in an auto accident on October 25, 2003 at the age of 19. In his honor they have set up an annual scholarship to benefit one or more North Haven High School Senior Ice Hockey Players who will be continuing their education.

Craig Hillo was a four-year member of the North Haven High School varsity ice hockey team. The high school has retired Craig’s jersey and number (2), which hangs at the Northford Ice rink where Craig worked, played and coached. After the ceremony, the rest of the hockey team paraded-by, horns honking and cars decorated to honor the graduating seniors, Coach Avena, and the Hillos.
