Obituary: Marie Amore, 89, of North Haven

Marie was a member of the North Haven Senior Center and worked in the office of Dr. Peter J. Schioppo for over 40 years.

NORTH HAVEN, CT - (From North Haven Funeral Home) Marie Amore (Auntie), 89, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26th, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael campus.

She was born in New Haven on June 10, 1931, a daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Rocco) Amore. She attended local grammar schools and graduated from Commercial High School with the class of 1949.

After graduation she worked for a few years in her father’s business, Chapel Laundry and Dry Cleaners and subsequently worked in various offices at the A.C. Gilbert Company.

She then took a job in the development office at Yale University where she worked for 12 years.

After leaving Yale’s employ, she joined the office of Dr. Peter J. Schioppo. She remained in Dr. Schioppo’s employ along with his son, Dr. Peter D. Schioppo for some 41 years until she retired in August 2008 at age 77.

Marie lived in Fair Haven in the family homestead for some 64 years until her move to North Haven in 2003.

She was a former parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church where she served as a catechist, lector and was active in many other church functions. She left St. Rose Parish after moving to North Haven and joined St. Barnabas Church.

Marie loved music, art, flowers, cooking and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her many afghans were gifts to family and friends and were often used as raffle prizes for charitable causes.

She often entered her work at the North Haven Fair. She was a member of the North Haven Senior Center.

Marie is survived by a brother Pasquale (Pat) of New Haven, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by a sister Michaelina and four brothers, Vincenzo (Jim), Andrew, Michael, and John.
