NORTH HAVEN, CT — The cleanup continued Friday after North Haven was hit hard by a severe storm that caused major damage throughout town. North Haven has faced a “very significant number of problems” as a result of the storm, according to First Selectman Michael Freda.

In an update on Friday night, Freda said there were around 2,800 outages in North Haven and crews would be working through the weekend to restore power to the town. He said restoring power is a “top priority right now.”

“Last night, I declared a state of emergency in town and today I toured the entire town to review the damage and wreckage,” Freda wrote in a post on Facebook. “I saw homes, neighborhoods and streets with a staggering amount of damage. In some cases, I spoke to residents who actually had trees fall into their homes. We started the day with 56 major roads and side streets totally impassable. We also had over 4,000 power outages across the town this morning. We started the day with 12 crews in our town clearing roads with the National Guard to ensure the safety of our residents. This afternoon, we had 18 crews in town and tonight we were able to get the UI to bring in 30 additional crews from Maine to assist our town.

“There are now are a total of 48 crews in town currently working to clear debris from roadways, to rehabilitate power lines and snapped power poles, and to restore power. As of this evening, we have gone from over 4,000 outages this morning to 2,800 outages this evening. This is still a very significant amount that is a top priority right now. These crews will also be working through the weekend in an effort to restore our town to safety and power. I thank you for your patience during this difficult time for our town but we as a community will always prevail, and this government will not be satisfied until all of our residents are safe and are with power.”
