Drunk Driver Crashes Into State Police Car In Norwich

A driver was arrested on accusations that she was driving drunk when she hit a state police cruiser.

NORWICH, CT — A driver was arrested after she crashed into a state police cruiser in Norwich Tuesday night, according to State Police Troop E - Montville. Police said in a Facebook post that the state police trooper was blocking the right lane of I-395 south prior to Exit 11 in Norwich to assist at the scene of an accident.

While the trooper was entering information about the accident, a 31-year-old Ledyard woman driving a 2019 Kia Forte failed to move over and struck the rear of the cruiser.

The woman's vehicle then spun out and struck another vehicle, which had been traveling in the left lane.

The 31-year-old woman showed signs of impairment and was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed, according to police.

She arrested on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol/drugs, failure to move over for an emergency vehicle, following too close resulting in an accident, and operating with unsafe tires. She has been previously arrested for DWI.

The trooper was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
