Obituary: James And Maryanne Kirby, of Norwich

Jim was an avid sailor and musician. Maryanne worked for Unilever in Clinton for over 30 years and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren.

CLINTON, CT — Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, at Swan Funeral Home in Clinton for James Francis Kirby and Maryanne Theresa Kirby, who passed away within days of each other. The couple currently lived in Norwich and formerly in Clinton. Jim passed away on Dec. 3. He was 73. Maryanne passed away on Dec. 1 at the age of 69. Maryanne was born on May 16, 1949, and was raised in Bridgeport, the daughter of John and Marie (Scalzi) Matthews. James was born on August 11, 1945, and was raised in Stratford, the son of James and Susan (Kelly) Kirby.

Jim was an avid sailor and musician. Maryanne worked for Unilever in Clinton for over 30 years and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren.

They are survived by their children, Michael Kirby and his wife Kate of Westport, Karen Argarin and her husband Lou, of East Lyme and James Kirby and his wife Melissa of Darien; grandchildren Jason, Evan and Kyle Kirby and Nicholas and John Argarin. Maryanne is survived by her sister Sandra Miller and her husband Ed of Fairfield and nieces Jonna, Noelle and Gina and nephew Sean. Jim is survived by his brother Robert Kirby of Sydney, Australia and nephew Liam. They were predeceased by their grandson Alexander Argarin.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 7 from 8:30 a.m.-10:15 a.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Grove St., Clinton. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the ALS Association.
