Winter Team State Championship History: Norwich Free Academy

NORWICH, CT — As practices for high school winter sports officially get underway in Connecticut Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.

To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of the 28 CIAC winter team titles won by Norwich Free Academy in past years (* - indicates a co-op team). Note:Norwich Tech has never won a state championship.

• wrestling (9) - Class LL: 1994, 1993, 1991, 1988, 1987, 1986, 1985, 1984, 1983
• girls gymnastics (8) - Class L: 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996; Open: 1977
• girls basketball (7) - Class LL: 2010, 2009, 2002, 2001, 1999, 1997, 1996
• girls indoor track (2) - Class LL: 2013; Class L: 2001
• boys indoor track (2) - State Open: 1975; Class L: 1974
