Black Bear Spotted In Orange, Police Warn

"Bear sightings are common in Connecticut," Orange police said.

ORANGE, CT — Police are warning residents that the department has received multiple reports recently of a black bear sighting in the area north of Derby Avenue between Orange Center and Racebrook roads, according to a post on the department's Facebook page.

"Sightings were also reported yesterday in the Westville section of New Haven and the Johnson Road area of Woodbridge bordering the northeast corner of Orange," Orange police said. "Bear sightings are common in Connecticut, and we request that you only call us when there is a threat or an emergency associated with a bear."

The department warns residents not to feed or approach a bear, and "keep your distance and respect all wildlife."
