ORANGE, CT — A vacant home in Orange was damaged Wednesday morning by a fire that was quickly brought under control by firefighters despite some challenges, according to the Orange Volunteer Fire Association.

In a news release, Fire Chief Vaughan Dumas said Orange volunteer firefighters arrived at the home, located on Mapleview Road, around 7 a.m. Smoke could be seen coming from the home's roof and walls and flames were visible inside the single-story home, Dumas said.

"Alert neighbors spotted the smoke and called 911," Dumas said in a news release. "We had equipment and personnel on the scene within minutes and were able to get inside to find the seat of the fire and extinguish it quickly."

According to Dumas, firefighters attempted to enter the home through the front door but encountered a weakened floor, forcing them to enter through the back door. Firefighters located the blaze in the home's basement and brought the fire under control minutes later.

There were no injuries, however the fire caused approximately $50,000 in damage to the newly renovated home's basement and first floor, Dumas said.
