Road Construction Work In Orange Could Cause Delays: Police

The state is replacing a culvert over Silver Brook, and adding a fifth lane to Route 1 between Racebrook and Lambert roads.

ORANGE, CT — Two state road projects in Orange beginning Wednesday could cause traffic delays, Orange police warn.

The state Department of Transportation is replacing the culvert over Silver Brook, which flows under Route 1 near Chips Restaurant, and adding a fifth lane on Route between Racebrook and Lambert roads.

Phase one of the project, the drainage work associated with the culvert replacement, is expected to last into the spring of 2021, while the fifth lane work is expected to run through the end of 2021, according to officials.

"During construction, there will only be one lane of traffic on Rt1 in each direction between Racebrook Road and Lambert Road with a third 'suicide' lane in the center to help keep traffic flowing," police said in a post on the department's Facebook page.

Motorists can expect delays in the area, and are urged to remain patient during the construction.
