ROCKY HILL, CT — More than 80 employees have been laid off at the Sheraton Hartford in Rocky Hill following an additional round of mass layoffs, officials recently announced. Officials said the layoffs at the hotel, located at 100 Capital Blvd., are expected to be temporary.

The company announced the layoffs in a letter to the Connecticut Department of Labor and Rocky Hill Mayor Lisa J. Marotta. Officials wrote that the layoffs are the “result of the unforeseeable, dramatic downturn in business and occupancy caused by the coronavirus natural disaster and the severe travel restrictions that have been imposed along with the state-wide stay-at-home orders in several states that have also drastically reduced” the hotel’s occupancy.

The company laid off 36 employees in March, followed by another group of 29 in April and the third group included 16 workers in May.
