Nutmeg Sponsors Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Hartford and New Haven

Credit Union pledges $10,000 to jump start fundraising campaign

As the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, Alzheimer’s disease continues to have a significant impact on families everywhere. Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union is stepping up to raise awareness and funds to fight the disease as a main sponsor of Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in New Haven and Hartford, Connecticut. All proceeds will benefit Alzheimer’s support and research.

“Several Nutmeg staff members and I have friends or relatives who have been affected by Alzheimer’s, making it a cause we deeply care about,” said John Holt, President and CEO of Nutmeg. “We’re ready to do our part, and now is a more important time than ever to show your support.”

Holt explained that there may be significant budget cuts to government funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institute on Aging (NIA) in 2020. These organizations play a key role in researching diseases like Alzheimer’s and are leading proponents for developing a cure. By hosting Walk to End Alzheimer’s events across the country, the Alzheimer’s Association frequently supports these organizations by raising awareness and collecting donations.

The first Nutmeg-sponsored was on Sunday, September 29 at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven. The Hartford area event will follow soon after on Sunday, October 13 at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.

The credit union has already jump-started the fundraising effort with an initial $10,000 donation as well as over $1,000 in staff and member donations and over $3,000 from business partners. In addition to the walks, Nutmeg is encouraging everyone to show their support by

“I am extremely proud of the work we have done so far to help this cause and love seeing the community come together,” said Holt. “Our goal is to make significant strides against this terrible disease. We hope to see lots of families and Nutmeg members show their support at these events!”
