Rocky Hill Obituary: John Carella, 97

Condolences to his family and friends.

John M. Carella, 97, of Rocky Hill returned to his heavenly home on Monday, August 6, 2018. His firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

John was born in Hartford, son of the late John & Josephine (DeGregorio) Carella. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Washalaski) Carella.

John was a decorated WWII veteran serving his country as a First Lieutenant navigator in the U.S. Air Corps. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after many years of service.

John will be dearly missed by his sister Eleanor Colangelo and his 15 nieces and nephews who celebrate the fact he is at peace with his creator and reunited with his loving family who predeceased him: his wife Mary, parents, brothers Nicholas, Joseph, & Matthew, and sisters Lillian & Mary.

His family wishes to thank the staffs at Bel-Air Manor and Masonicare for the kindness and commitment to the care they gave.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 9, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Newington, with Rites of Committal following the Mass at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. Relatives and friends may call for visitation on Thursday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave, Newington.
