Rocky Hill Republicans Will Name Slate Of Candidates Wednesday

Henry Vasel will be at the top of the ticket running for Mayor.

The Rocky Hill Republicans will name their slate of candidates at their caucus Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall Council Chambers.

The Republicans will look to break a stronghold by the Democrats. The Rocky Hill Democrats have held majority of the Town Council for the last four terms, eight years. The Republicans held the majority briefly for two years but it was a Democratic majority for many years before that two year break.

Republican Town Chairman Jeff Thomen said Henry Vasel will run for Mayor at the top of the ticket and that the slate has been picked but the party will still accept nominations and intentions from the floor Wednesday night.

"We actually had a lot of people interested and it has been a process," Thomen said. "Henry has worked hard to try to find people he thinks he can work well with. There were definitely times when I was getting a little anxious but we have solidified a slate of candidates.

"But I have to respect the process. We have some people in mind but we will still look at anyone who comes up from the floor."

Thomen said Vasel coming out and making it public that he would be running for Mayor helped attract some unexpected people who wished to join the slate of candidates.

"He came out early and little by little people started gravitating towards him and reached out to him to say they might be interested in running with him," Thomen said. "He knows a lot of people and he reached out to some people and like I said, people called him. He definitely got people excited and he had a lot of work to do."
