Rocky Hill Restaurant Gets Boost From Barstool Sports

The Barstool Fund has provided support to another struggling restaurant in the state.

ROCKY HILL, CT — Another Connecticut restaurant will be receiving help from The Barstool Fund, created by pop culture news site Barstool Sports, WFSB 3-TV reported. The New York Pickle Deli in Rocky Hill will receive money from the fund, which has raised more than $22 million to help restaurants across the country during the pandemic.

The New York Pickle Deli has been operating for more than three decades. It is the fifth restaurant in the state to receive money from The Barstool Fund, according to WFSB 3-TV.

The restaurant posted the following on its Facebook page: "So Ken got this call on Sunday. We are beyond thankful that @stoolpresidente @barstoolsports @barstoolfund chose us to help. We’ve been here for over 30 years and with this help we will make it through this terrible time. Heroes do exist. THANK YOU. "

Hartford establishment Red Rock Tavern recently also got a boost from the fund. Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy recently expressed disagreement with mandated shutdowns of restaurants across the country and particularly in the Northeast.

Red Rock Tavern received $500,000 and will continue to receive funds monthly, The Middletown Press reported. The restaurant has been around since the 1930s.

Portnoy posted a video on Twitter in which he criticized the government for failing to support small businesses during the pandemic. "No one seems to care in the government or at least they are not doing anything acting like they care," he said. "No plan, no relief, no bailout."

He said that he's come up with a plan to help those businesses, but said it would be better if the government issued "billions of dollars of relief to these small business owners who are losing their livelihoods."
