Rocky Hill's Cora J. Belden Library Children's Department Getting New Rug

The Children's Department at the Cora J. Belden Library is getting a facelift, or rather a floor-lift.

The town's capital improvements budget approved new carpet in the room, which is downstairs at the library. The library rug, which is worn, especially on the stairs, has stains in several spots. It is 20 years old according to library Director Mary Hogan. 

The main level of the library will remain open during normal hours. There will be no adult programs during this week as the entire downstairs will be inaccessible. Your Cora J. Belden library cards can be used at all areas of the libraries. You can also return items from any public library at the Cora J. Belden Library. 

"We are happy to have a new rug being put in that space," Hogan said. "It is pretty neat to have them start today (Monday) and they'll hopefully be done by Friday.

"While they are replacing the floor, we will re-design the Children's Room. We will re-configure where things are displayed. We will also be lowering several of the displays so that the books and computers will be more easy to get at for the kids."

By Monday mid-day, almost all of the books were separated in order in large yellow crates, exposing the stains and wear and tear of the rugs. The new rug will be a navy blue pattern and installed in squares so that if there is excessive wear or stains, just that square can be replaced. 

Hogan said if any parents or children need a specific book or they can help with any needs during the floor replacement, they are available to help at (860) 258-7621. Hogan said if, for some reason the Rocky Hill library couldn't find or get to a certain book that was needed, they would call surrounding towns like Berlin, Newington, Glastonbury and Wethersfield to see if those libraries might be able to help.
