Rose Gardens planned for CT Trees of Honor Memorial

On Memorial Day

Rose Gardens planned for CT Trees of Honor Memorial

With the assistance of Jane Harris of the Middletown Garden Club and the North East
Chapter of Aetna’s Veterans Employee Resource Group - AetVets (led by Christopher
Macdonald and Jade Scangarello), the CT Trees of Honor Memorial in Veterans
Memorial Park in Middletown will welcome the addition of two new rose gardens near
the Flag Ceremonial Plaza and close to the feature sculpture First Tear.

Designed by the Middletown Garden Club, the gardens will take the form of a teardrop
shape and will feature ever-blooming roses and short grasses. The Memorial honors all
CT veterans and especially honors our state’s fallen heroes who gave their lives in service
to our country while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Aetna Veteran volunteers will install the gardens on Memorial Day and will be assisted
by any community members willing to come help that morning. AetVet's mission is to
support and empower Veterans and their families. Over the last year they have organized
numerous local chapters to help promote more veteran engagement and “esprit de corps”,
launched their first “by Veterans for Veterans” mentoring program to assist with personal
and professional growth and just kicked off a Veteran sponsorship program that focuses
on helping transitioning Veterans navigate through their first 90 days of employment with
Aetna.

Volunteers should bring sunscreen, water bottle, rake/shovel and gloves.
