Support the Rocky Hill Referendum for a Community /Senior Center
Friends for the Community/Senior Center
Dear Editor,
I am writing to support the Rocky Hill Referendum to support our addition/renovation of the Community/Senior Center that has been 15 years overdue. My husband and I taught for several years in the Newington Public School system and we were very involved in that community. We continue to be involved in our community at First Church in Wethersfield. The present in or community is space. There is very limited space for any activities for all age groups. My husband used to teach Ukulele lessons to students in Glastonbury after school, but we do not have space in Rocky Hill. My husband and I have attended Senior Proms for senior citizens in other towns and we were able to interact with high school students. There is no room for this activity in Rocky Hill. Surrounding towns have cultural, musical, and speaker opportunities. We have no room in Rocky Hill. Teens and younger children are in need of programs. There is no room in Rocky Hill. We were a united community in the past and it would be very beneficial to all ages to be united in the present and future. In order to progress and offer opportunities to all age groups and form Intergenerational activities we need space and accessible rooms. Rocky Hill does not have the space to create these possibilities. Many retired musicians would benefit if they had a place to have jam sessions where they could share their talents with the community and they could offer lessons to the younger generation. It is time for us to unite as a growing , vibrant community and reach for the stars where we can continue to benefit from one another.
Sincerely,
