Suspicious White Powder Found at Goodwill Not Hazardous [Update]

Local and state emergency personnel have determined that the white powdery substance found this morning at the Town Line Road store is not hazardous.

Update at 1:40 p.m.:

According to fire officials, the white powdery substance found this morning at the Goodwill Store is not hazardous.

Fire officials said that three bags holding the powder had fallen out of an article of clothing. As a precaution, the store was evacuated.

At 11:30 this morning while on their lunch break, a group of employees from the Easter Seals that had come to work today at the Goodwill store were calmly told by a police officer to leave the building.

Randy, the supervisor, gathered up his 8 employees and did just that.

"It was intense. We were just trying to be on the safe side,” Randy, who asked that his last name not be used, said as he stood outside the Goodwill store this afernoon.

Emergency officials responded to the store after a plastic bag was discovered to contain a large amount of a white powdery subsance, according to the employee. 

Patrons of other businesses in the plaza have been allowed to leave the parking area and those businesses remain open.

Emergency officials are at the scene of another reporter white powder scare, this time at the on Town Line Road, according to news reports.

In addition to personnel from the and , members of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection response unit have arrived to investigate the substance.

At the moment, employees and shoppers are not allowed to leave the store as a precaution.

In recent weeks there have been several reports of mysterious white power incidents, including Thursday in Manchester in which a and in March when a was put in lockdown.
