AT&T Employee Accused Of Fudging Accounts To Get Devices

An employee of a major communications company is accused of setting up fake accounts to get devices.

ROCKY HILL, CT — An employee of a major communications company has been charged with first-degree larceny and is accused of setting up fake accounts in order to get promotional items, state police said.

Jose Luis Lopez, 32, of West Haven, was taken into custody via a warrant on Wednesday after surrendering to state police, an arrest report indicates. He posted a $75,000 bond and is due in court on March 15, according an an arrest report.

According to an arrest report, Lopez, while employed by AT&T, created "fraudulent custiomer accounts" in order to obtain "numerous" smart phones and tablets. He then sold the devices to a third party. according to an arrest report.

State police put no dollar amount on the transactions, but the charge in Connecticut is a Class B felony and comes with thefts valued at more than $20,000.

AT&T has a facility at 500 Enterprise Drive in Rocky Hill.
