Town Manager Says Town In Pretty Good Shape But Be Patient

Saturday morning from midnight until 4 a.m. the Town of Rocky hill pulled its police cars and smaller plow trucks off the street as they were continuously getting stuck.

Since then, however, the town has done well in beginning to clear the roads in town.

"We ask that residents stay off the roads even though they are passable," Town Manager Barbara Gilbert said. "The roads are passable but not in good shape. It is a massive amount of snow that has to be plowed. We are hoping to assume our normal work week after the weekend but the parking ban is still in place. We are also asking residents to shovel their sidewalks, which we know is not easy, and also clear fire hydrants."

Gilbert said she hopes to have roads passable by the end of today and then crews can work on the school and town parking lots on Sunday.

"We had a lot of cars getting stuck last night and it was very dangerous," Gilbert said. "We had abandoned vehicles on several roads including the Silas Deanw Highway and it was impedeing all of the work we were trying to do. The fire department was able to get out early this morning to make sure there were no people in the abandoned cars."

Gilbert said that the Silas Deane Highway and Route 3 are basically one-lane roads in both directions. Elm Street is also very narow.

"We have all the fire departments manned and open so we are able to get to any emergencies," she said.
