Town Officials Decide to Buy Convault for Rocky Hill Fire Station #3
First they thought about changing generators to natural gas but this option is less costly.

Rocky Hill Fire Station #3 has an old tank that over time has deteriorated and needs to be replaced. It is called a convault and provides all the fuel for the generators at the Fire Station.
When town officials found out about the need for a new convault, which is a concrete vault to house the tank, they approached Connecticut Natural Gas to inquire if it would be less costly and feasible for this project. The answer was a simple no.
So Monday night, Town Council awarded a bid for $30,180 to United Concrete Products, to provide the convault at Fire Station #3.
"We looked into going with natural gas but it was costly and CNG was not sure it was the best solution to the problem," town Manager Barbara Gilbert said. "By DEEP standards we have to remove it and replace it. We sent a plan to Planning and Zoning and it was approved."
There is an island in the back of the station and that is the proposed site for the convault.Â
Gilbert told Council members that the town is in constant talks with CNG about switching buildings to natural gas.
"We have talked to them about switching the Police Department over to natural gas for the generators there," Gilbert said. "Since the Police Department serves as our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) we would qualify for a Natural Hazard Grant. We would need to apply for that grant so we are in the midst of studying what will be our best option."Â
