CROMWELL, CT — Officials of Travelers, the PGA Tour and the Travelers Championship Monday announced the insurance giant has extended its sponsorship of Connecticut's largest sporting event through 2030.

The company has been a partner of the tournament since its inception in 1952, and has served as title sponsor since 2007, when the event's existence was in jeopardy due to loss of its previous major investor. The agreement will make Travelers the longest-running title sponsor in the event's history.

Travelers Chairman/CEO Alan Schnitzer said, "So many historic and exciting moments in golf have happened at the Travelers Championship over the years, but it’s the amazing moments that are made off the course that capture the real value of our hometown tournament. As a company rooted in taking care of its customers and communities, the charitable mission of the Travelers Championship reflects who we are as an organization. This tournament is important to so many people across the region – both as an economic driver for the state and as a funding source for hundreds of charities – and we are proud to continue its legacy for years to come."

Since 2007, the tournament has generated more than $20 million for nearly 800 charitable organizations. Most recently, $3 million was raised to help rebuild the Hole In the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford after a devastating fire destroyed many of the buildings on the property.

Gov. Ned Lamont said, "I love this event. The eyes of golf lovers all over the world are glued on Connecticut every June. The Travelers Championship is an amazing shot in the arm each year for the state of Connecticut."

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, an alumnus of Trinity College in Hartford, said, "We are absolutely thrilled to take part in [Monday's] announcement. This event has all the right ingredients. There is nothing like being in the bowl on 18 on Sunday."

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 event was held on television only, with no spectators allowed. Due to the advent of vaccinations and easing of government restrictions, tournament director Nathan Grube said fans would be allowed - "not in the hundreds, but in the thousands" - though a final determination of limitations has not yet been established.

The tournament is slated for June 21-27, 2021 at the TPC River Highlands. Dustin Johnson is the defending champion. Tickets are not yet on sale. More information may be found at www.travelerschampionship.com.
