2 Stamford Restaurants Donate Pizza, Jerk Chicken To Police

Two local restaurants recently donated food to the Stamford Police Department as a way of saying thank you.

STAMFORD, CT — As the city, and the state, continues to grapple with the spread of the new coronavirus, some Stamford residents have decided to show their appreciation for first responders by donating food to them. Stamford Police experienced this firsthand last week, and later expressed their appreciation on social media.

On Thursday, the department's staff received donated lunches from both La Perle Restaurant and Bar, a Caribbean-style eatery located on Bank Street, and Belltown Pizzeria, a popular pizza joint on Belltown Road. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

In a message of gratitude posted to the department's Facebook page that day, Capt. Diedrich Hohn described the food donated by both restaurants as "delicious." The captain also made special note of the jerk chicken provided by La Perle, which he said was "especially" enjoyable.

According to Smith J. St. Juste, La Perle's co-owner and executive chef, the restaurant provided officers with jerk chicken, sweet plantains, vegetables and rice and beans, some of the restaurant's best-selling items, as a way of showing their gratitude to the department.

"My business partner, Peter Medoit, and I simply wanted to say thank you to Stamford PD for their selfless service to our community during this unprecedented time," St. Juste said in an email to Patch.

In response, Hohn said the department wanted to not only thank both restaurants, but help support them as well.

"We can all support [these restaurants] by picking up take out at Le Perle, Belltown Pizzeria and all restaurants in Stamford," Hohn said on Facebook. "So let's all support our local restaurants and businesses during this tough crisis."
