3 Stamford School Music Groups Win Awards

Turn of River's Jazz Band and Chamber Singers, and AITE's Concert Choir, won at the recent Music in the Parks Competition.

STAMFORD, CT - From Stamford Public Schools: Stamford Public Schools (SPS) announced that three of the district’s performing ensembles took first place at a recent Music in the Parks competition held at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Mass. The Turn of River (TOR) Jazz Band and TOR Chamber Singers, as well as the Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE) Concert Choir competed against other musical groups from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York earning first place in each of their respective competitive categories.

All competing instrumental ensembles were allotted 25 minutes and each choral ensemble was given 20 minutes in which to complete the following:

  • Set-Up
  • Performance of an optional warm-up piece, not to exceed three minutes in length
  • Performance of two selections of the director’s choice for adjudication
  • Exit the stage

According to the Music in the Parks organization, in addition to evaluating each participating ensemble’s performance, experienced instrumental and vocal teachers provided feedback on how to improve performances going forward. Trophies were awarded to the winning groups.
