7 Custodian Positions Eliminated From Stamford Schools: Report
The move comes as the district prepares to reopen schools in the fall.
STAMFORD, CT — Seven custodian positions have been eliminated from Stamford's education budget heading into the new school year, but officials hope to be able to salvage the posts with help from the union, writes the Stamford Advocate.
The move this week by the Board of Education comes as schools prepare to reopen during the coronavirus pandemic, and those schools will require additional cleaning on a regular basis.
The school district and the union that represents the custodians have been negotiating for months on a new deal that might be able to salvage the positions. The two sides have not yet been able to strike a deal, but officials reportedly are still hopeful that an agreement can be reached.
