After a Passing Driver Sees Altercation in Car, Stamford Woman Charged

A driver was concerned when he saw a woman in another car fighting and with her nose bleeding, police said.

An argument in a car got physical when a woman hit her boyfriend and the altercation was seen by a passing driver, Darien police said.

Police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court):

At about 3:20 p.m., Sunday, April 12, a passing driver saw the 56-year-old Stamford woman with her nose bleeding and appearing to be in a fight with the man who was driving the car on Tokeneke Road. The driver, who was headed in the opposite direction, turned around and followed the dark BMW east on the road (toward Norwalk) and called police.

Darien police saw the vehicle in Norwalk, coming back into Darien on Flax Hill Road, near Old Kings Highway North in Darien. The car was stopped and officers spoke to the couple — a 57-year-old man, who was driving, and his girlfriend, 56.

The two explained that they were headed back to their home on Strawberry Hill Road in Stamford after seeing an art show in Norwalk. The two had gotten into an argument, and she struck him in the face. When he tried to protect himself, he accidently hit her on the nose, she said.

She appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, with glassy, bloodshot eyes, and she had trouble focusing.

At one point, the man said, he had pulled over to the side of the road and had left the vehicle. Then, when things calmed down, he got back in and started driving again. Police saw the man had scratches on his head.

The woman was charged with disorderly conduct and given a misdemeanor summons to appear in court the next day.
