Celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month at the Ferguson Library

Performances by Connecticut Chinese Dance Group, Słowianie Polish Folklore Dance Group, and Taller Portal Norteño and more.

Come celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month at the Ferguson Library Main Library on Sunday, June 6 from 1:30 to 7 p.m. The event (schedule below) will take place on the library plaza at the corner of Broad and Bedford Streets, Stamford. For more information, call 203 351-8231.

1:30 p.m. – Chinese Dance Group – Performances by Connecticut Chinese Dance Group (Dance Teacher: Alison Wang)

Sun of the Morning Melody in Shanghai (Chinese Classic Dance) - This dance showcases the artistry and aesthetic of daily life - the "flames" of everyday life, focusing on the “hidden” elegance, sophistication, comforting and routine gestures of day-to-day living that may go unnoticed.

Dao La (Mongolian Dance) - “Dao La” is based on Mongolian folk songs. It is a singing-oriented dance form.

3 p.m. – Polish Dance – Performances by Słowianie Polish Folklore Dance Group
The Krakowiak - A fast, syncopated Polish dance (also known as the Cracovienne), is from the region of Kraków and Lesser Poland.
Trojak - Dances done in groups of three, Trojak is from Silesia. Its songs and dances are simpler, yet very similar to those of Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Tance Lubelskie - The Lublin area is one of the more colorful of all the Polish regions, with costumes made with a variety of different colored materials and ribbons.

4 p.m. Taller Portal Norteño - Traditional dances of Peru.

5 to 7 p.m. Vigil of Light in Times of Pandemic - In memory of victims of COVID-19. Co-sponsored by the Mayor’s Multicultural Council, Intempo, City of Stamford, Ecuadorian Civic Committee of Fairfield County, Inc., Ladis Salon Unisex, and La Tertulia.
