City Updates Atlantic Street & Henry Street Intersection Improvements

The City of Stamford has announced changes to the project design Project #135-320 which was presented at a Public Information Meeting.

STAMFORD, CT – In accordance with the City of Stamford and the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Policy on Public Outreach process, the City of Stamford has announced changes to the project design Project #135-320 which was presented at a Public Information Meeting on August 8, 2013 at the Lathon Wider Community Center.

As presented at the August 2013 Public Info Meeting, the excess property at 740 Henry Street was conceptually planned to accommodate seven off-street parking spaces. Through refinement of the design, it was later determined that the excess property could only accommodate a total of four off-street parking spaces with the proposed configuration. However, due to the extremely close proximity of the parking area driveway to the intersection with Atlantic Street, it was decided that traffic safety and operations in this area would be compromised. Therefore, the design was changed from four off-street parking spaces to an alternative design with four on-street (curbside) spaces in the vicinity of 740 Henry Street. A press release and a letter describing the parking revisions was sent to all affected residents on November 8, 2016; providing an opportunity for public input through end of business day on November 30, 2016.

In response to the November 8, 2016 public outreach, the City received six public objections on November 30, 2016; for the reduction from seven parking spaces to four parking spaces. As a result, the City has redesigned the final drawings to accommodate seven spaces, which include six off-street spaces and one on-street space. A copy of the redesign is included with this release.

Revised design plans for Project #135-320 are available for public inspection at the City of Stamford, Traffic Engineering Office located on the 7th Floor of 888 Washington Boulevard, Stamford, CT, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
