Closing Date Extended At Stamford's Fairway Market
The grocery store and adjacent wine and spirit shop on Canal Street was expected to close in June or earlier this month.

STAMFORD, CT — The potential closing dates for Stamford's Fairway Market have been extended to sometime between July 31 and Aug. 14, according to a recent letter from store officials to the Connecticut Department of Labor.
Officials had anticipated the Canal Street market and adjacent wine and spirit shop would close sometime in June or early July, but has pushed the closure and subsequent layoffs until a buyer is found.
More than 100 employees will lose their jobs when the store finally closes. Whether the potential buyer would hire back all or some of those workers was not immediately known. The workers are represented by the Westport-based United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW Local 371).

According to Stamford Economic Development Director Thomas Madden, the store is expected to continue extending the closure dates until a buyer is found, in part because it will be easier to sell a functioning store than a shuttered one.
