Coronavirus Stamford Updates: Restaurant Announces Layoffs

Bartaco has announced temporary layoffs of nearly 200 employees at its restaurants in Stamford, Westport and West Hartford.

STAMFORD, CT — Barteca dba Bartaco, or simply Bartaco, announced 190 employees have been temporarily laid off at the restaurant's three Connecticut locations in Stamford, Westport and West Hartford due to the new coronavirus. Employees were notified of the decision in writing and in person, according to a letter submitted to the state Department of Labor on April 1.

The layoffs were effective March 21, the letter states. The restaurant said its temporary layoffs are due to the spread of the virus, also referred to as COVID-19, having an "unforeseen impact" on their business.

All bartaco locations are still open for take-out and delivery options, and the restaurants are planned to fully reopen for dine-in services "as soon as possible," according to the letter. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
