Firefighters Rescue Horse After Fall From Bridge In Stamford

Fire officials said the horse fell off a small bridge while crossing a creek in Stamford.

STAMFORD, CT — Firefighters were able to rescue a horse that had fallen off a small bridge in North Stamford on Wednesday. Long Ridge Fire Company Chief Dan Dauplaise said Willow, a 30-year-old horse, fell around 9:30 a.m. while crossing a creek on River Bank Road.

Dauplaise estimated the bridge was about 1-2 feet long.

Crews responded to the area and located Willow, who Dauplaise said was down but did not appear to be injured. He also said it can be difficult for a horse to stand up after falling, due to how heavy the animals are.

Firefighters were eventually able to get Willow back on her feet through a combination of pushing the animal and enticing her to move. Part of the bridge had to be disassembled due to the horse's hoof being stuck, Dauplaise said.

The Stamford Fire Department provided mutual aid.
