Many Students Need Support to Succeed After Distance Learning
Stamford Public Education Foundation launches TutorU to alleviate learning loss and prepare students for success in the fall

With close to 20% of the student population missing time physically in a classroom this year, tutoring initiatives that combat learning losses are more important than ever. As the school year draws to a close, the summertime can be the perfect opportunity to catch-up or move ahead on academic studies.
Building on its history of success with the Stamford Public Schools, the Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) is launching TutorU, an affordable, one-on-one tutoring program for kids this summer. This program is staffed by professional tutors who establish individualized learning plans that will ensure students have mastered grade-level milestones and are set up for success in the fall.
According to Matt Quinones, “TutorU is a great choice for parents because SPEF has been providing tutoring in the schools for seven years, our program is aligned with the district’s core standards in English and math, and our pricing makes tutoring services more accessible to families.”

TutorU provides students in grades 2 through 12 with one-on-one tutoring in English and math twice a week. It is aligned with the Stamford Public Schools curriculum and can be especially helpful for students who are transitioning into middle or high school in September. In addition to academic instruction, each student’s individualized learning plan includes goal setting, improving organizational skills, time management, and developing good study habits. For maximum family convenience, summer sessions can take place at home, at a community location, or virtually and are available Monday through Saturday.
Parents can purchase four- or eight-week packages, comprised of two, one-hour sessions each week. Profits from this program will go towards tutoring scholarships for economically disadvantaged students in the fall.
