Rosa E. Colón is a 1985 graduate of Colombia’s Jorge Tadeo Lozano University and also studied Architectural Expression at the National University of Colombia while taking private classes in oil painting. Colón, She emigrated to the U.S. in 2000 and immersed herself in art education under the direction of Florence-trained master artist, Enzo Russo. Since 2002 her work has been featured in a medley of solo and group exhibitions throughout the tri-state area’s galleries, corporations and universities. Colón has also curated several shows including Hispanic Heritage Month’s at Sackler Gallery and “Flower Perfume” at Arte Inc. Gallery in New Haven. She is also one of the founding members of Liber-art.org, the Stamford-based collaborative art group.

Rosa likes to capture significant moments from her life and her background in her work. She is fascinated with nature, by its outside line, forms, shapes and vibrant colors. Her paintings reflect her character and personality and she likes the simplicity as well as the complexity of nature and flowers.

Rosa represents her subjects in a hyper-real reality working with a variety of mediums, especially oils on canvas that have strong colors. She also picks, from her garden, flowers and leaves and then presses them for use in her pressed flower series. Lastly she creates flowers, using her own cold porcelain recipe. The porcelain flowers are applied to her paintings, giving them a three dimensional quality. Through her art she tries to conserve the flowers’ beauty and grandeur for future generations.

Rosa is currently a member of the board of the Stamford Art Association, Loft Artists Association, Greenwich Art Council, a private art teacher- mentor, watercolor art instructor in the Stamford Public Schools’ Adult & Continuing Education.
