New Fitness Club Opens At Stamford Town Center Mall
J. Luppino Fitness, a new fitness club located in the Stamford Town Center mall, recently opened its doors to customers.
STAMFORD, CT — J. Luppino Fitness, a new fitness club located on level four of the Stamford Town Center mall, held its soft opening Feb. 6.
Located near Macy's, in the space previously occupied by the mall's Apple store, owner Jhonnatan Luppino said it felt amazing to finally be open to customers.
"I have wanted this for so long," Luppino said, "and to see it become a reality has been surreal. I can't wait to share my own personal playground and passion for fitness with new customers."

According to Luppino, he has already had a "very positive response" from clients. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
"Everyone is excited to see something new and different in the mall," Luppino said. "It definitely stops people and catches their eye as they walk by and peaks their interest."

He also noted customers can get their first class for free, in addition to a free personal training session, with no membership required. While the fitness center does offer membership options, customers do not have to become a member to purchase classes and personal training sessions.
"The benefit of the membership is that you get unlimited classes and personal training sessions per month, as well as guest passes," Luppino said. "It doesn't cost you anything to try something new. You can't beat that and you have nothing to lose, but I promise you will not be disappointed and will want to come back for more."
In December, Luppino told Patch he hoped the club's "small, personable" scale compared to larger gyms would help customers feel comfortable in a fitness environment, noting his format would be based on small group fitness classes.

Luppino had originally planned to open the club last year, however the project faced delays due to the coronavirus crisis.
"COVID-19 presented many challenges and delays to the process over the past several months," Luppino said, "but it has made it that much more rewarding to finally be open."
The club currently has a number of fun events planned, including a Valentine's Day obstacle course class, in which customers can "challenge their valentine," and a glow-in-the-dark boxing class featuring a live DJ.

The opening adds another business to the mall, which has seen a number of stores close in the past year, including Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle recently.
Last month, Stamford Economic Development Director Thomas Madden said he and Mayor David Martin recently met with Safavieh, a rugs and home furnishings company that purchased the mall in October, and they were both excited about some of the proposed changes planned for the mall.
"The mall is an asset that helps support the development in Stamford and [the city's] South End," Madden said in January, noting the transition to new owners will help with the leasing of space at the mall.
